Triumphant Life Church Purchases Main Post Chapel, Begins Move to Fort Monmouth

The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) sold the Main Post Chapel in Oceanport to Triumphant Life Assembly of God Church this month, beginning a new chapter in the Church’s history and marking the first religious institution to set down roots on the Fort.

Triumphant Life, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, will renovate the five-acre property for use as a house of worship and community outreach center, and will construct a 115-space parking lot. The church expects to have a staff of 12 on the Fort following completion of renovations.

“We’re looking forward to being part of the Fort Monmouth community and to serving the residents who will be moving into housing units being built on the Fort in the near future, as well as employees of various businesses in and around the Fort,” Triumphant Life Pastor Lyddale Akins said.

The February 27 Main Post Chapel sale comes approximately two months after the FMERA Board authorized staff to enter into a Purchase and Sale Agreement with Triumphant Life Church for the property. The Main Post Chapel sits on property obtained in FMERA’s purchase of the balance of the Fort from the United States Army in November.

“Over the last several months, the pace of redevelopment has accelerated as developers start getting shovels in the ground and organizations like Triumphant Life realize the value of locating at Fort Monmouth,” FMERA Executive Director Bruce Steadman said.

The Main Post Chapel property is in the Oceanport Horseneck Center Land Use District and the Fort’s Historic District, although the chapel itself is not considered historic.
