Under New Ownership, Teen Center Continues Offering Educational and Recreational Programs to Community

Once used by the US Army for providing educational and recreational programs, the Teen Center in Tinton Falls will continue its role as a community recreation center under the direction of the Monmouth County Parks System.

The County’s Fort Monmouth Recreation Center initially opened its doors to the community in 2014, operating under a lease agreement with FMERA. After nearly four years of successful operation, the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) transferred the property to the County on February 23. The approximately 6.5-acre parcel includes the recreation center, multi-purpose courts, a picnic area, and a swimming pool.

“From the start of FMERPA’s planning for the economic revitalization of Fort Monmouth, the original Teen Center was destined to become part of the County’s Park System,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Lillian G. Burry. “The area was ripe for a multi-use regional recreation center. It now joins the 43 parks that comprise the County’s Park System. It has already become one of our most sought-after parks. We consider it an asset for both the Monmouth County Parks’ System and the redevelopment of Fort Monmouth.”

The Fort Monmouth Recreation Center offers an extensive array of activities and programming for children and adults, such as arts & crafts, basketball, fitness classes, tabletop games, summer camps, nature activities, soccer, swimming, tee-ball, tennis, volleyball, and much more. In addition to its recreational offerings, the Center also hosts a variety of community events including craft shows, job fairs, specialty artisan classes, and health & wellness seminars.

“The Fort’s Reuse Plan strongly encourages the incorporation of recreation, entertainment and open space in the Fort’s overall redevelopment,” said FMERA Director of Real Estate Dave Nuse. “We’re pleased that Monmouth County Parks System will continue to offer its impressive programming in perpetuity, helping to build a sense of community at Fort Monmouth.”
